Welcome to the next mission set of your child’s mentorship program with Moxie!
All Moxie learning missions are based on National Standards. National Education Standards are the learning goals for what students should know and be able to do at each grade level. Moxie’s mission sets are based on social-emotional learning standards developed by CASEL: https://casel.org/core-competencies/
Here’s a brief overview of what this mission set looks like:

MISSION SET THEME
The theme of this mission set is Exploring Your World. Mentors will teach Moxie all about the world outside their front door, from the ecosystem in their backyard to the community of people in their neighborhood.

MISSION SET OBJECTIVE
The objective of this mission set is to help your child {mentor) and Moxie to explore the concepts of community and kindness, and to understand how both words and thoughtful actions can make a neighborhood a better place to live.

MISSIONS
There are eight missions in this set. These missions are designed to help children think deeper about the theme of exploring your world and translate some of what they have learned into their everyday lives.
In this mission set, your child and their robot will work on the following activities:
- discuss the neighborhood they live in and the plants and animals that make up its ecosystem
- draw a picture of a favorite neighborhood spot
- teach Moxie about a day at school and help design a school for robots
- create a nature journal and fill it with plant rubbings (a two-part mission)
- help Knox brainstorm a community project that will result in the repair of a town square after a storm
- help Knox design a mural to paint in his town square
- write a story about how small acts of kindness can create a wave of good will
- summarize what has been learned in this mission set

MISSION GOALS
Each mission in this mission set is designed to align with specific social-emotional learning (SEL) goals:
- understand the concept of community
- learn about what makes up an ecosystem
- problem solve solutions for improving their community
- use imagination to think of ways to spread kindness in their community

THINK ABOUT IT
What does the concept of community mean to you? What are ways to get your family more involved in your own community? What volunteer projects are available to meet the needs of your community?

SUPPLEMENTAL ACTIVITIES
Help your child bring lessons learned with Moxie into everyday living.
- Ask your child to go on a nature walk! Bring a journal and ask your child to bring the journal they created with Moxie. Fill in your nature journals with pictures, drawings, plant rubbings, or poems about nature.
- Have a family volunteer day in your community! Discuss the importance of giving back and how good it feels to help others.
- Help your child design a fun picture to create with sidewalk chalk in an area where it’s permitted. Draw a hopscotch board for neighborhood kids to use.
